Dine in a Dash

Three tools that will make dinner easier tonight

You're busy - you hardly have time to empty the dishwasher, let alone dirty more dishes by cooking dinner. However, in these tight economic times, cooking dinner seems like the best option. Here are three kitchen tools that can make tonight's dinner a little bit easier:

Chop to it

Chopping vegetables can be tedious and can take a lot of time. A small vegetable chopper is a great way to get the veggies small, without having to use pre-made frozen bags, says Ken Avella, operations manager for Fosters Homeware in Philadelphia. You could even hide it in your appliance garage.

Silicon valley

Using products made of silicon in the kitchen is a newer technology and can prove to be much easier on the dish-washer. "It's a new thing in cooking. [Silicon] is heat resistant non-stick, and easy to clean," says Avella. "It's great for baking because you can bend the material like an ice cube tray and things pop right out."

Loopty loop

A food loop is a multi-purpose tool that you can wrap around anything from stuffed chicken to vegetables. Heat resistant, you can cook your foods, and not have to worry about stabbing yourself with a toothpick, says Avella.

In addition, it can never hurt to enlist some help from the kids with some of the safer tasks such as mixing and stirring. Before you know it, a delicious dinner will be on the table and you'll be ready for clean-up duty.
