Just as children evolve into teens by saying 'eeewww!' to your suggestions for their wardrobe, they want to express their own tastes in their bedroom décor. Don't fight it. You can't keep cowboys and princesses on their walls forever.
Designing a room with your teen can even be a pleasurable experience. "This is part of a trend for families to spend more time together. It's a way to connect and share a mutual passion," says Tana March, a Los Angeles-based designer.
Pam Boukram, a bedding and home décor designer who owns the Naperville, Ill.-based Wake Up Frankie teen décor company, and her daughter, Johana, offer these teen bedroom décor tips:
â“ Add unexpected, whimsical decorations like a prickly cactus.
â“ Huge mirrors make a room look larger; lean them against the wall.
â“ Pot a palm or something unique like that in a clay pot.
