07-07-07 – What’s in a Date?

For some, the number reads like a winning slot machine. For others, such as Eva Longoria and Tony Parker, it’s the perfect day for a wedding

By all accounts July 7, 2007 will yield a wedding-day jackpot.

The perfectly aligned date inspired couples to rush the aisles. More than 30,000 couples have registered on wedding-planning site TheKnot.com that they plan to marry on 07-07-07, nearly triple the amount from the corresponding weekend in 2006. Los Angeles wedding planner Carrie Zack, who booked her 07-07-07 client last June, says she has turned down about a dozen couples who called later hoping to ice the lucky date. Some even went on waiting lists in case – heaven forbid – a couple dropped out.

Celebrity couple Eva Longoria, of “Desperate Housewives,” and her superstitious basketball beau Tony Parker, of the San Antonio Spurs, who plan to tie the knot in Paris on 07-07-07, believe the date will bring them luck. Last summer’s 06-06-06 didn’t create the same buzz.

A whimsical flow of numbers isn’t all that makes a great date. Zack has see couples choose certain dates because of personal significance. One couple chose the grandparents’ anniversary. Others opt for the day they met, the year anniversary of their engagement or their parents’ anniversary. One chose the date a sibling passed away – not just to honor them but also to feel as if that person was a part of the special day.

Whatever date you pick will be magic for you. If you missed the boat on 07-07-07, look on the bright side: you won’t have to fight the crowds who’ll be clawing to make reservations for July 7 anniversary dinners for decades to come.
